AGAMEE –A Society for Help for Self Help

Women Empowerment Program

Gender Training Program: From 2013, Agamee –A Society for Help for Self Help has been working on gender issues, especially we are providing training on gender discrimination, domestic violence. We are organizing workshops on gender-related issues [Child rights, child abuse, child marriage, etc]. Now we are organizing gender sensitization programs with college and university students. Agamee –A Society for Help for Self Help has been working with other Organisations ‘Luthrun-World Service Trust India’, ‘Birbhum Sneha’, ‘Ghosal Danga Adibasi Sangha’, ‘Sarada Ramakrishna Ashram’

Working with Universities about Gender Awareness Issue

Our organization has focused on issues like gender discrimination, gender violence, financial literacy, and women empowerment with the collaborations of college and communities. On the 25th of July 2017, a seminar was conducted at Hazra Law College, Law department of University of Calcutta on gender discrimination. Students had shared their experiences with us. Our objective is to create awareness among youth so that they can also share their experiences and take part in these kinds of social curses.

Working with Schools about Gender Awareness Issue

This year we can conduct a Gender Awareness program at two schools. On 3rd May 2017, another awareness program was conducted at ’Bani Mandir Bidya Niketan’ Siliguri on the same issues. 11th November 2017 an awareness program on gender discrimination and gender violence was organized at Dhulagore High School

Working with other NGOs about Gender Awareness Issue

On the Gender empowerment issue, we are also working with other NGOs. On 11th March 2018 members of Agamee-A Society for Help for Self Help participated in a program about Gender-related issues organized by an NGO named Unmesh. One of our members gave a lecture on gender discrimination and domestic violence issues.

Working with Communities about Gender Awareness Issue in West Bengal

On 15th July 2017, a seminar was conducted at Durgapur District on the issue of gender discrimination. On 14 August 2017, another seminar was conducted at Chandrakana, Midnapore District on the same issue. Community people had shared their experiences with us. Our objective is to create awareness in communities so that they can also share their experiences and take part in these kinds of social curses. At Mecheda, Midnapore District, a one-day Gender Awareness program was conducted by the Agamee-A Society for Help for Self-Help on 16th August 2017. Community people were very much enthusiastic about the program and they gave active participation and full cooperation to us.

Working with Clubs about Gender Awareness Issue

In the first phase, Agamee- -A Society for Help for Self Help worked as spreading awareness rather than implementing actions. Awareness program on gender discrimination and gender violence is the key point of spreading awareness and knowledge. On 17th November Rotary Club Ballygunge Unite invited us as the key speaker. Member of Agamee – A Society for Help for Self Help gave a lecture on the Gender Empowerment issue.

Conducting Survey on Gender Discrimination issues

Form this financial year the organization started surveying gender discrimination issues. On 4th July and 6th, August Agamee-A Society for Help for Self Help Society surveyed on Gender Discrimination issues. In Hotor, Agamee works with ‘Sri Sri Sarada Ramkrishna Ashram’.

AMAN-Global Voices for Peace in the Home

It is an International Network to End Domestic Violence. It comprises organizations and individuals in India and abroad, working on the core issue of violence against women, particularly domestic violence. It came into existence on 7 December 2006. The network provides a platform for member organizations and individuals to interact with each other and learn and grow from each other’s strategies and best practices. Aman Network includes Agamee A Society for Help for Self Help as an active member. The members of Agamee, participated in tainting on PWDV Act organized by the network in different areas. On 19th-20th December 2017, members of Agamee –a Society for Help for Self Help participated in the ‘Aman Regional Meet’ at Sikkim. On 30th July 2017 as a member of Aman NetWork Agamee performed a choreographic performance ‘PURUSTTAM’ on the Gender Discrimination Issue at Beliaghata, North 24 Pargana district.
